Keene State hands Western New England College first loss at RussMatt Invitational

- The Western New England College baseball team suffered its first loss of the season after dropping a 15-8 decision to Keene State Monday afternoon (March 15) at the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational.

The Owls roughed up five Golden Bears' pitchers for 15 hits in moving their record to 4-1.

WNEC led 4-1 after four innings before KSC scored an unearned run in the fifth and six times in the sixth.

Western New England College had another strong hitting performance with 12 hits as four players enjoyed multi-hit outings.

Senior first baseman Joe Griglun (Southington, CT) had a single, homer, two runs, and three runs-batted-in.

Senior shortstop Justin Walz (Groton, CT) had his best day at the plate with a single, double, run, and RBI.

Junior left fielder Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) singled twice while freshman third baseman Mike Rubino (Northford, CT) contributed a pair of singles, run, and run-batted-in.

Senior center fielder Steve Kearney (Glastonbury, CT) added a single with two runs, and a RBI.

Sophomore Mark DiTommaso (Hebron, CT) went 5 1/3 innings and took the loss.

Keene State had five extra base hits, including three home runs.

Senior left fielder Keith Patnode (Keene, NH) led the way with a single, three-run triple, homer, and three runs. Junior right fielder Bobby Doyon (Keene, NH) had a single, double, homer, and also scored three times. 

Sophomore center fielder Kyle Morrill (Auburn, NH) had a single and two-run homer with two runs scored. Junior Dan Nelson (Glastonbury, CT) went six innings for the  win.
