- Senior Victoria Lospinuso (West Islip, NY) pitched four scoreless innings in relief and sophomore designated player Sarah Lempicki (Southington, CT) had two hits as the Western New England College softball team defeated Manhattanville 3-1 for its first win of the season Tuesday (March 16).

The Golden Bears fell to Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham 5-0 in the second contest.

In the opener, Lospinuso allowed only three hits with a strikeout and the Golden Bears took advantage of two unearned runs in the sixth for the victory.

WNEC took a 1-0 lead in the third when junior first base player Trish Breault (Millville, MA) reached on an infield single, took second on a ground-out, and scored on Lempicki's RBI single to left.

Sophomore shortstop Sara Barnes (Berkley, MA) contributed a single, triple, and run scored.

Lempicki had two of the team's four hits in the second game as sophomore pitcher Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ) struck out four and walked four in gaining the shutout.

McInaw also helped her cause with a solo homer in the second.

Western New England College has 1-5 record.
