LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Western New England College women's lacrosse team fell to Wheaton 15-10 Tuesday night (March 16) in a non-league contest at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Golden Bears fall to 2-3 after playing their fourth straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent.
Senior midfielder
Lindsay Fenton (Pelham, MA) led WNEC with four goals and two assists while junior attacker
Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) fired-in three goals.
Junior attacker
Nicole Squadrito (Ellington, CT) and freshman midfielder
Megan Doyle (Putnam Valley, NY) each contributed a goal and assist while sophomore attacker
Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) dished out a pair of assists.
Junior defender
Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) netted the other goal for the Golden Bears.
Fenton had a team-high four ground balls with Barbato and Doyle both picking up three apiece.
Junior goalie
Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) finished with 10 saves.
It was a close first half as Wheaton took a slim 9-8 lead into intermission.
Senior
Chrissy Norberg (Winchester, MA) tallied three of her game-high five goals in the second stanza, including two in the opening 5:43 of the half. She also added two assists.
Sophomore
Hailey Colburn (Concord, NH) scored four goals while sophomores
Hannah Ferris (Rye, NH) and
Katie Powers (Ashburnham, MA) each chipped-in with two scores. Freshman goalie
Stephanie Hoomis (Duxbury, MA) also stopped 10 shots.
The Lyons defense limited the Golden Bears to only two goals in the final 30 minutes.
Wheaton now has a 1-1 record.
